How to set up Email (IMAP/POP) for iPhone & iPad

The iPhone and iPad supports IMAP. IMAP will allow you to retrieve emails and folders from Pulse8 and leave the emails on the server, useful if collecting using more than one device.

Follow these steps to create an IMAP connection to an iOS device (iPhone or iPad)

  1. On the iPhone, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Other.
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Ensure IMAP is selected.
  9. Enter your incoming mail server information:

Hostname is mail.yourdomain.com   (replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name)
Username is your full email address
    Password as issued by pulse8

  10. Enter your outgoing mail server information:

Hostname is mail.yourdomain.com   (replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name)
Username is your full email address
    Password as issued by pulse8

  11. Tap Next.
  12. The phone will attempt to Verify the server identity. If you receive the Cannot Verify Server Identity alert click Details (If you get an SSL alert see Step 15).
  13. Next select Trust to validate the server.
  14. Tap Save (go to Step 19).

  15. The account will attempt to retrieve default settings from the server, and then present the message Cannot Connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?. Please be patient while the settings try and authenticate with the server. Since the account is attempting to be setup securely but there is not an SSL assigned to the mail domain, it is okay to tap Yes at this point.
  16. Choose Yes.
  17. Tap Save.
  18. When prompted, "This account may not be able to send or receive emails. Are you sure you want to save," tap Save.

  19. Tap the account you just added (identified by your email address).
  20. Scroll down and tap the SMTP button.
  21. Select the server you just added, mail.yourdomain.com   (replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name)
  22. Select OFF for Use SSL (default option).
  23. Select Authentication and change it to Password.
  24. Server Port should be set to 587.
  25. Select Done at the top (the phone will Verify your settings).
  26. Select Account at the top to go back.
  27. Tap Advanced (bottom).
  28. Scroll down to Incoming Settings.
  29. Select ON for Use SSL.
  30. Select Authentication and change it to Password.
  31. Select 993 for Server Port.
  32. Tap your Account to go back.
  33. Tap Done to go back (the phone will Verify your settings).
  34. Tap the Home button.
  35. Tap the Mail App to start using your newly configured email.
